The Newtowne Players announces upcoming auditions for the January 2008 production of “It Runs in the Family”, a comedy by Ray Cooney. There are roles for five (5) men, ages 25 to 55, one young man age 15 to 30, one man age 40 to 70, and four (4) women, ages 25 to 55.
Set in the doctor’s common room of a London hospital, Dr. Mortimore is rehearsing his speech for the prestigious Ponsonby Lecture, which could lead to his knighthood. Comedy strikes as he tries to fend off a paternity suit, an ex-wife, a punkish child and various other lunatics.
Auditions will be held at Three Notch Theatre, located at 21744 South Coral Drive, Lexington Park, MD, at 7 pm on Monday and Tuesday, November 12th and 13th, 2007. "It Runs in the Family" is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Publishing Inc.
Auditions are open to the public; membership at is not required. Attendance both days is also not required. Auditions will be readings from the script. Please bring your calendar for possible rehearsal conflicts when signing up. Performance dates are Thursdays - Sundays from January 18 to February 3, 2008.

It Runs In The Family - Character Descriptions
Dr. David Mortimore - (mid 40- mid 50) charming, slightly pompous, convincing liar, controls the show
Dr. Mike Connolly - (20-30) exuberant, boyish, ready to take on the world
Dr. Hubert Bonney - (mid 40 - mid 50) insignificant but enthusiastic man used to being controlled by his mother, will do anything for a friend
Head Nurse Sandra Clarke - (late 30- mid 50) used to giving orders & having them taken, no nonsense type of woman.
Dr. Willowby Drake - (50+) elderly, stern administrator, a little out of touch with what really goes on in his hospital
Jane Tate - (late 30 - late 40) pretty, cuddly, knows how to take advantage of a situation
Rosemary Mortimore - (late 30-mid 50) attractive, supports her husband but has a life of her own
Leslie - (18) punkish looking, very excitable, animated, able to play gamut of emotions
Nurse - (mid 20 - mid 30) cameo appearance
Police Sergeant - (mid 30- late 50) practical, down to earth, wants the facts but has seen enough of life to recognize when to call it a day
Bill - (50+) eccentric, fun-loving, dirty old man who uses a wheelchair as his best prop
Mother - (mid 60+) doting, amiable, but strong-willed where her son is concerned

Other Special Events
Funeral Tea, written by Pat Wilson and directed by Tasnim McWilliams, has been selected to represent The Newtowne Players at the Maryland One-Act Festival held on January 2008. This hysterical one-act play was showcased at NTP during the One-Act weekend held this past June.
Mrs. Ellis, an English lady, caters small weddings and funeral teas. As a group of ladies sip their tea, it becomes apparent that someone has misplaced the urn with dear uncle Jacob's ashes! When Sarah suggests that the tea tastes a little odd -- they discover the tea tin still locked in the cupboard and all assume an appalling possibility!
